masih tak habis dengan si gladwell ni ya...
sesapa yang terbosan tu minta maaflah banyak2...
tapi,
memang buat masa ini rasa sangat ingin berkongsi maklumat menarik dari buku Outlier ini lagi...
masih tentang bijak matematik...
kata Malcolm, antara sebab lain generasi bangsa Cina, Korea dan Jepun bijak matematik adalah kerana bahasa mereka
terutamanya dialek kantonis, suku katanya sangat pendek,
empat atau four disebut 'si' dan tujuh atau seven disebut 'qi'...jadi ,
"The memory gap between English and Chinese apparently is entirely due to this difference in length.
The number system in English is highly irregular.( contoh 2 is two, 12 is twelve, 22 is twenty, 45 is forty five)
Not so in China, Japan and Korea. They have logical counting system. (contoh 12 is ten-two, 22 is two-tens-two, 24 is two-tens-four, 45 is four-tens-five)
That difference means that Asian children learn to count much faster than American children. 4 year old Chinese children can count on average to forty, American children at that age can count only to 15 and most don't reach 40 until five. By the age of 5, American children are a year behind their Asian counterparts.
The logical counting system also means doing addition, the basic skill , far more easily.
add thirty-seven plus twenty-two, in the head of a 7-year old English speaking child,
she has to convert the words to number (37+ 22), then ; 7 + 2 is 9, and 30+20 is 50 which makes 59
ask a Chinese student to add three-tens-seven and two-tens-two, no translation is required, the answer is embedded in the sentence, its five-tens-nine...
for fractions...
the Chinese are not rote-learners...
we say three-fifths (3 per lima)... (ini yang selalu pelajar kita tak faham)
but they say literally "out of five parts, take three"...
